A New Chapter in Sleep Medicine for the North West

On Friday evening, the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny became the backdrop for a significant milestone in regional healthcare โ€” the official launch of the North West Sleep Clinic. Founded by Dr Olga Mikulich, the clinic is set to transform how sleep disorders are diagnosed and treated across County Donegal and the wider North West region.

The evening brought together medical professionals, local community leaders, and supporters to celebrate the opening of what is now the area’s first specialist sleep medicine facility. Guests were treated to an engaging panel discussion featuring experts in cardiology, respiratory medicine, and sleep science.

“Sleep is not a luxury โ€” it is a medical necessity. We are here to make expert sleep care accessible to every patient in the North West.”
Dr Olga Mikulich, Founder, North West Sleep Clinic

An Evening of Expert Insight

The launch featured a keynote panel of distinguished speakers, including Dr David, Cardiologist at Letterkenny University Hospital, who spoke about the critical connections between sleep disorders and cardiovascular health. Dr Mikulich herself addressed the audience, answering questions on the clinic’s approach to diagnosis and personalised treatment.

The clinic offers a comprehensive range of services including diagnosis and management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), snoring solutions, home and in-clinic sleep studies, and Group 2 Drivers Assessments for HGV, bus, and taxi licence holders.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore the latest CPAP equipment and speak directly with the clinical team about treatment options. The atmosphere reflected both the medical significance of the occasion and the warmth of a close-knit community welcoming a new healthcare resource.

A Holistic Approach: Sleep, Nutrition, and Performance

North West Sleep Clinic is also building collaborative pathways that support patients beyond diagnosis alone. As part of this holistic approach, the clinic collaborates with Sophie Savva, a high-profile dietitian and founder of MyDietitian, to help patients understand how nutrition, weight management, metabolic health, and sustainable lifestyle changes can influence sleep quality, fatigue, and long-term wellbeing.

This joined-up model is especially relevant for patients with sleep apnea, insomnia, cardiometabolic risk factors, or performance and longevity goals, where sleep health and nutrition often work together.

Sophie Savva introduces her nutrition-led approach and explains how it can support North West Sleep Clinic patients.

Collaborative Patient Support

Sophie has created a dedicated information page for North West Sleep Clinic patients, outlining how dietetic support can complement sleep medicine and guide patients who wish to book nutrition services.
